Cultural Education and Inclusion

Diversity

Guided by social justice principles, the Office of Cultural Education and Inclusion upholds and works towards pluralism through our commitment to empower, advocate for, and educate members of our community. Our office fully embraces individuals from varied backgrounds, cultures, races, identities, life experiences, perspectives, beliefs, and values.

The Office of Cultural Education and Inclusion values and celebrates diversity as a means of enriching the educational experiences of all students. Studying and learning in a heterogeneous environment, helps to prepare students to live and work in a global society. As a part of their educational experience, students benefit when they interact with multiple diverse groups, including those who have been historically underrepresented in post-secondary institutions.

We work hard to foster and encourage an inclusive environment that seeks to celebrate and harness people's identities as a means of self-awareness and development. It is our goal to create a culture on campus where all members are and feel appreciated, have a sense of belonging, and are able to participate and achieve their full potential.

Several opportunities for interaction are provided, through multicultural programs, and various outreach and support services that help students transition into college life, while enhancing their academic success. Services offered include multi-ethnic and multicultural programs and workshops, including: Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Awareness Month, and in-class presentations on diversity and sensitivity issues. Serving all students regardless of ethnicity, student input, participation, and attendance is encouraged for all activities coordinated by the office.

The office also advises students of color and international students. For the international students, the office is responsible for processing immigration paperwork, advising on immigration regulations, and acting as a liaison between international students and The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service.
