Importance of Antivirus Software

Antivirus software is an importance defense against viruses, malware, trojans, and other types of unwanted programs. Antivirus software can protect you from many of these unwanted programs. No antivirus program is 100% foolproof in protecting your machine from being infected. University owned computers use Kaspersky Antivirus. For your personal computer, some suggested antivirus programs are in the Antivirus Application list below. Once the antivirus software is installed, please configure the software to update its self at least once a week - more often is better. Also, please configure the software to scan the entire system at least once a month.

Importance of Updating Your Computer Software

All software programs have "bugs" or programming errors that can make your computer vulnerable to security threats, including viruses and malware. It is possible for programs to "take over" your computer and cause it to be a threat to the rest of our infrastructure. This threat can be reduced by keeping your computer up to date and by utilizing an antivirus program.

Antivirus is an important part of security. Antivirus applications will generally protect your computer system from more than viruses. It may also protect your computer from malware and other types of malicious applications. There are free applications as well as applications that can be purchased. Sometimes the applications that are purchased have some additional features. Below is a list of both free and applications that can be purchased.
