The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering program provides an engineering science-intensive approach to increase students’ understanding and problem-solving abilities. Offering concentrations to tailor your field of study, the MS in Electrical Engineering is directed toward both full-time and part-time students with a special emphasis on providing training, experience in performing independent research on topics with theoretical as well as applied interest, and managing projects.

To satisfy requirements for an advanced degree in electrical engineering, you will take four core courses in Engineering Management or Project Management, Design of Experiments, System Integration, and Advanced Electrical Engineering Analysis. At the completion of these 12 credits, you will then choose a faculty advisor and course of study for the remainder of your education. Your choices include an all-course option; a project option, which includes advanced coursework and a final presented project; and a thesis option, that involved advanced coursework and a thesis with presentation.

Admissions Requirements

  • Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in electrical engineering. Other related disciplines will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required for admission. Candidates with a lower GPA may be considered for conditional admittance or nondegree status.
  • Programming competence in C, C++, Visual Basic, or FORTRAN. 
  • Candidates with an undergraduate degree not accredited by ABET are encouraged to submit a GRE score from the past five years.

Faculty

As a small but robust program, the faculty get to know each individual student, which helps them customize your educational experience to suit your needs and goals. All members of the full-time faculty have doctoral degrees with research expertise in areas such as RF/Wireless systems, digital signal/image processing and communications, embedded systems, robotics (mechatronics), integrated circuit design, nanotechnology, photonics, software and systems engineering, microprocessors. Our faculty also have industrial experience that enhances their teaching as well as industrial contacts that are leveraged in obtaining internships, research projects, and jobs for our students.

All courses are offered through a flexible model that includes optional in-class sessions as well as online via KODIAK, Western New England University's online learning management system. Through this online classroom you will be able to view lectures, complete and submit assignments, participate in discussions with classmates, and communicate with your professors. 

* International candidates will be required to attend in-class sessions in order to be in compliance with student visa requirements. You can complete the MS in Engineering program in as little as one year.
