Television Studio

Lights, Camera, Action!

Our modern television studio is designed to be both an educational and creative space, as well as a hands-on production floor. Not only will you learn to operate the high-quality television equipment and how to direct your own professional broadcasts from the control room, but you will also develop and hone your on-camera presence.  The studio features cameras with teleprompters, an anchor desk, an interview set, and chroma key “green wall.” The Digital Editing Lab features Mac computers with Final Cut Pro editing software to edit and compile their videos.

Unlike other schools, you won’t have to wait to be an upperclassman to use the studio—in fact there are opportunities for you to jump right and learn during your first semester. In particular, Golden Bear Television, the University’s television club, will give you a head start by teaching you how to write, produce, and star in your own newscasts, weather reports, PSAs, short films, and more.

The University allows students to borrow cameras, tripods, mics, and other production gear to produce their projects. Students use projects to build professional résumés. Many have been showcased in the community through our Institute for Media and Nonprofit Communication. Students also produce videos that have won several awards including the national CBS Super Bowl Chevy Challenge, The Associated Press of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, The American Advertising Awards with the Ad Club of Western Massachusetts, and of course, Western New England University's own Media Festival

From skills in writing, producing, filming, editing, and on-camera work, to industry-grade editing software, you will have everything you need to create your projects and professional portfolio. And it all starts in our television studio.
