Deena J. Tampi

Deena J. Tampi MSN, MBA-HCA, RN

Executive Director of the Center for Health and Well-Being

Deena J. Tampi, the Executive Director of the Center for Health and Well-Being, has a career history of developing high-quality and accessible health services at all levels of care. Among her 25+ years working in healthcare, her experience with college students and the wider campus community has been one of the most rewarding.

Among many honors, she was the recipient of the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing Leadership, University of Phoenix Alumni Community Service Award, and Healing Hands Award for Advocacy and Nursing Excellence. She served as an Associate Editor of the World Journal of Psychiatry and serves as a reviewer for an annals of Clinical Psychiatry. She has over 65 evidence-based publications and has co-authored and edited five academic text books.

Lauren Dansereau

Lauren Dansereau MSN, ANP-BC

Associate Director of The Center for Health and Well-Being, Director of Medical Services 

Nurse Practitioner 

Lauren Dansereau is the Associate Director of the Center for Health & Well-Being and Director of Medical Services. Lauren is an ANCC board-certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. She has 15 years of experience as a college health Nurse Practitioner at WNE, and in addition, 22 years of diverse experience as an RN and Clinical Supervisor. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has additional experience in Gastroenterology, Hospice, and Urgent Care. Lauren is passionate about providing exceptional personalized health care to students and staff at the university. In addition, she enjoys health education and mentoring students and Nurse Practitioners to become health and wellness leaders.

Mary B. Shafer

Mary Shafer DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CPN

Assistant Director of Medical Services/Nurse Practitioner

Mary Shafer is board-certified with the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Drexel University and then earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has experience caring for children, young adults, and families in pediatrics, urgent care, and college health. She continues to teach undergraduate and graduate nursing students as adjunct clinical faculty. She enjoys working with individuals in the university environment as they navigate their own health and wellness journey.

Sharon Brown

Sharon Brown DNP, FNP-C

Nurse Practitioner 

Sharon Brown was born in North Carolina. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Elms College and then earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice. She holds a national board certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She provides direct care to both employees and students. She has experience in gastroenterology and urology. Sharon is also the Family Nurse Practitioner Track Coordinator and Assistant Clinical Professor at Elms College.

Ariel Bullock

Ariel Bullock MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Nurse Practitioner

Ariel Bullock is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She provides direct patient care at the Center for Health and Well-Being as a part-time provider. Ariel was previously employed by Harrington Physician Services where she worked in pediatrics for three years. She also worked as an on-call nurse practitioner, providing telehealth services to several Massachusetts practices. Ariel presently teaches family nurse practitioner students online with Regis College.

Joseph Viadero

Joseph Viadero MD

Physician 

Dr. Joseph Viadero is a board-certified internist with 38 years of experience in primary care. A graduate of the Northwestern University School of Medicine, Dr. Viadero completed his residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He was a founding partner of Connecticut River Internist where he practiced until 2020.

Ryan Berthiaume

Ryan Berthiaume M.Ed

Director of Counseling

Ryan Berthiaume is the Director of Counseling Services at the WNE Center for Health & Well-Being. Ryan is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and has been with the Center since Spring 2021. He attended the University of Maine Farmington and earned a B.S. in Psychology and full honors distinction by completing the school’s honors curriculum with a successful undergraduate thesis defense for a research study done on the stigmatization of athletes and athletic identity. Ryan pursued his research interests in Psychology and college athletics by attending Springfield College for graduate study in Athletic Counseling. While studying at Springfield, Ryan completed the requisite hours and coursework for certification for the Association of Applied Sport Psychology before ultimately pursuing and graduating with an M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Derick Arhin

Derick Arhin M.Ed

Staff Mental Health Counselor and Cultural/Inclusion Specialist 

Derick Arhin received his Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Springfield College. His clinical lens centers around creating a safe space for clients to explore one's self-concept through a holistic lens. Derick firmly believes in the therapeutic relationship as the cornerstone of healing and as a culture and inclusion specialist, he enjoys working collaboratively with individuals to self-advocate, build resiliency, and explore skills that help them navigate conflicts on their journey to self-actualize.

Beth Hill

Beth Hill

Director of Health and Well-Being Education

Beth Hill is the Director of Health and Well-Being Education. She has a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.Ed. in Counseling. She has been working with students for over 35 years in varied capacities in higher education; 30 years have been dedicated to enhancing the community at WNE. Beth is a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and provides education and training on issues involving relationships and sexual harassment. Beth also works with students in training them on Bystander Intervention Strategies. Beth is excited about the work she will be doing with all members of the WNE Community in enhancing their agility, focusing on their own self-care.

Marilyn Laboy

Marilyn Laboy CMA

Medical Assistant, Office Manager 

Marilyn Laboy is a certified medical assistant and the office manager. Her responsibilities include assisting the health care providers with procedures, maintaining office and medical supplies, providing information to patients, managing all immunizations and health records. Marilyn provides triage at the reception area. Marilyn was previously employed by Hampden County Physicians as a medical assistant in both primary and urgent care. 

Jacqueline Coyle

Jacqueline Coyle CMA

Medical Assistant, Insurance Coordinator

Jackie Coyle is a certified medical assistant and the student health insurance coordinator. Her responsibilities include assisting the health care providers, patient triage, and maintaining medical supplies. Jackie was previously employed at AFC Urgent Care in Springfield for eight years as the center administrator and medical assistant.

Staff Assistant

Alisha Ross is the staff assistant and one of the first faces you'll see in the CHWB office. Supporting the office manager and clinical staff, Alisha helps ensure smooth operations for those seeking counseling and medical services. With over 10 years of experience providing advocacy, crisis response, and administrative support, she brings invaluable expertise to her role. Alisha was previously employed at UMass Amherst as a Crisis Intervention Specialist and Civilian Advocate for the Five College Community.
