Background
Debra Latour, OTD, M.Ed., OTR/L is currently the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at Western New England University. Her areas of interest include population health and wellness, global health, inter-professional collaboration, advocacy and policy, as well as program development. She is the recipient of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Faculty Research Award (2019) and Faculty of the Year Award (2020). Additionally, Dr. Latour is the owner of Single-Handed Solutions, LLC, providing consulting services to manufacturers, researchers, clinical providers and individuals with upper limb absence.
Dr. Latour graduated from Boston School of Occupational Therapy/Tufts University (1978) and earned a post-professional Master of Education degree from Springfield College (2006) and post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree at A.T. Still University (2018). She is an active member of the Amputee Coalition and past chair of its Upper Limb Advisory Council; she is also a member of Association of Children’s Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC), American Academy of Orthotics and Prosthetics (AAOP), American Telehealth Association (ATA), American College of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Dr. Latour has a congenital upper limb difference, is an active prosthesis-user and shares her experiences and tips through her blog at www.Single-HandedSolutions.blogspot.com. She is the author of patented prosthetic technology, application, and methodology, copyrighted upper limb prosthetic courses and programs, and several textbook chapters.
Hobbies and Other Interests: In her spare time, Dr. Latour volunteers in the community, enjoys biking and hiking with her husband, gardening, calligraphy, needlework and painting, travel, and socializing with friends and family (especially her grandchildren!).
