Your first or second parent’s name or date of birth as reported on your FAFSA does not match the name or date of birth in the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) records for your parent(s) Social Security Number (SSN). Therefore, you must correct your first parent (Item 61) or second parent’s (Item 65) SSN or first parents name (Item 62 and 63), or second parent’s name (Items 66 and 67). If your parent(s) name is correct, you must confirm it by reentering your parent’s last name and first name initial in Items 62 and 63 for parent 1 and Items 66 and 67 for parent 2.
If your parent’s date of birth is correct, you must confirm it by reentering it in Item 64 for parent 1 and Item 68 for parent 2.
If you confirm your parent(s) date of birth or SSN, they should contact SSA to make sure they correct it in their records. The SSA can be contacted by calling 1-800-772-1213 or by visiting www.socialsecurity.gov.
The Social Security Administration did not confirm that you are a U.S. citizen. Please provide our office with documentation of your U.S. citizenship (such as your U.S. Passport, Certificate of Naturalization or Birth Certificate). If the documents support your status as a U.S. citizen, we will make a copy of your documents and will then continue to process your federal student aid. You must also provide this documentation to your local Social Security Administration (SSA) office. To find your local office go to https://www.ssa.gov/. You will need to return a copy of the completed SSA form (SSA-2458) or letter confirming your citizenship to our office.
If you are an eligible noncitizen, you must submit a correction to Item 14 on the FAFSA to indicate that you are an eligible noncitizen and also provide your Alien Registration Number in Item 15 on the FAFSA. We will then receive an updated FAFSA/ISIR within 3 processing days with results from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) about your eligible noncitizen status.
The Department of Veterans Affairs did not confirm that you are or will be a qualifying veteran for purposes of receiving federal student aid for the 2021-2022 school year. If you believe you are or will be a qualifying veteran, contact our office and provide a copy of your DD214 (military separation form). If you are currently serving on active duty in the Armed Forces for purposes other than training, change your answer to Item 50 on the FAFSA from “Yes” to “No” and answer “Yes” to Item 49 on the FAFSA. If you are not and will not be a veteran, you must change the answer to Item 50 on the FAFSA from “Yes” to “No” and provide parental information including the signature of at least one parent.
