The College of Engineering’s Society of Automotive Engineers Baja Team (pictured), which, designed, built, and races its off-road vehicle in international competitions, was the recipient of an Alumni Association grant—one of 26 grants totaling more than $47,000 awarded during the 2015-2016 academic year.
The grants are funded by income from the Alumni Association’s Liberty Mutual Western New England University Group Savings Program, as well as the Amazon Associates Program, both of which have custom links on the main page of the Alumni Website. Grant recipients last fall included a new product innovation course for Engineering and Business students, the Criminal Justice Association to attend the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences annual meeting in Denver, the Western New England University chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to attend the ASME Student Professional Development Conference at Rutgers University, and the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society for its “Reading is Learning” literary initiative in Springfield,
Receiving grants this spring were groups that included the Center for International Sport Business for its speaker series, the Department of Athletics for photography equipment to take HD pictures on its redesigned website, the Western New England Law Review for its Gender and Incarceration Symposium on October 16, 2016, and the Pharmacy Student Governance Association for the College of Pharmacy 5K Road Race.
In the last nine years, the Alumni Association has awarded more than $360,000 in grants.
