The Golden Bear Mini Baja Team recently competed for the second year in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Baja Endurance Race in Rochester, NY. In this competition, teams of students from all over the world design, build, and race small off-road vehicles that can withstand the harshest elements of rough terrain.
For several years the team has received Alumni Association grants.
After a strong showing last year, and a complete vehicle overhaul this year that shed 150 pounds off of the vehicle, the Golden Bear team placed 21st (moving up eight positions from last year) out of 100 universities worldwide. With a growing membership of freshmen and sophomores, our young team doubled in size this year and engineered and built a vehicle that placed eighth in the grueling Hill Climb event.
“I am extremely proud of the entire team this year,” said David Greenslade ’14/G’15, SAE Mini Baja Team leader and a Member-at-Large in the Alumni Association Board of Directors. “The advancements we were able to make were substantial and it sets up the team to do even better next year.”
