Alumni Association Résumé Review Event Helps Graduates Make a Great First Impression

They say searching for a new job is a full-time job in itself. To make the process less daunting, the Alumni Association Board of Directors recently held a virtual Résumé Review event to help students and alumni put their best foot forward, with the support of the alumni network.

Courtney Chafer '14/G'16 helped spearhead the initiative as Chair of the Alumni Association Career Development Committee. “The Alumni Association is committed to fostering and strengthening the relationship between students, alumni, and the University. With the Résumé Review event, we were able to help students and alumni improve their résumés, which we hope will empower each participant to successfully take the next step in their career."

Seven alumni volunteers, who included professional hiring managers; recruiters; HR professionals; and career coaches/counselors, reviewed résumés and offered their expert feedback to 30 students and alumni. Participants ranging from recent graduates to experienced professionals remarked on the value of the specific and actionable feedback they received from their volunteer reviewers.

The event was a resounding success not only in enhancing résumés, but also in connecting alumni from coast to coast. In the spirit of helping each other succeed, the Alumni Association plans to continue programs that both inspire and help each Golden Bear thrive.
