Margaret L. Boyle, formerly Communications Director for U.S. Congressman Richard E. Neal (MA-01), has been appointed Assistant Vice President for Governmental Affairs and Public Relations at Western New England University.
"I am honored to join the team at WNE in the dawn of its second centennial," said Boyle. "WNE's mission of ensuring students possess both the academic acumen and real-world experience allows them to contribute to society in a meaningful and worthwhile way. WNE is a gem within the heart of Springfield, and I am honored to support its prosperity and longevity in my new role."
In her previous position as Communications Director for Congressman Neal, Boyle was responsible for all internal and external communication in Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. She also served as a special advisor and political director for Congressman Neal.
"Margaret has an exemplary reputation for integrity and performance here in Springfield, and across the Commonwealth," said Vice President for Marketing and External Affairs Mercedes Maskalik. "She is a welcome addition to the Marketing & External Affairs team, and I am confident she will skillfully represent the University's interests in her new role."
Boyle received her BA in American Studies and English from Smith College. In 2014, she graduated from the Women's Campaign School at Yale University Law School. A lifelong proud Springfield resident, she sits on the Board of Directors at the Springfield Boys and Girls Club. In April 2022, she was appointed by Governor Charlie Baker to serve as a Commissioner of the Springfield Redevelopment Authority, a corporate and political body established to spur economic development throughout the city. She was named to BusinessWest Magazine's "Forty Under 40" Class of 2022.
Boyle is a founding board member of the William J. Boyle Scholarship Fund that provides scholarships to Springfield high school students looking to continue their education at Springfield Technical Community College. She is also active with The Susie Foundation, a charity focused on changing the lives of young caregivers and families struggling with the daily challenges of living alongside Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Boyle's father, the late William J. Boyle, First Justice of the Springfield District Court, received his Bachelor of Science degree at WNE in 1978 and his Juris Doctorate in 1983. "I am thrilled to continue his legacy on this campus," she said.
Boyle resides in Springfield.
