Western New England University proudly recognizes the exceptional accomplishments of Dr. Daniel Kennedy, a distinguished faculty member who recently completed an appointment to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy's Academic Affairs Committee. In this role from 2021-2023, Dr. Kennedy's dedication and expertise played a pivotal role in the revision and combination of pharmacy COEPA (Curricular Outcomes and Entrustable Professional Activities), an important professional standards document. The COEPA framework represents the collaborative efforts of experts within the pharmacy education field to determine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of pharmacists that all students should demonstrate upon graduation and establishes professional activities that align with evolving industry demands.
The culmination of this work was published in four manuscripts in the esteemed American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education earlier this month regarding the COEPA and its implementation, as well as a plenary session at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Annual Meeting in Aurora CO. Dr. Kennedy's recent presentation during the AACP event helped shed light on the intricacies of the updated COEPA framework, highlighting its potential to reshape pharmacy education and empower future pharmacists with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers.
"Dr. Kennedy's contributions to pharmacy education demonstrates his continued commitment to excellence," said Dean John Pezzuto of the College of Pharmacy. "His role on the AACP's Academic Affairs Committee and his work to shape the COEPA framework both highlight his dedication to aligning education with industry needs and amplifies Western New England University's reputation as a center of innovation in pharmacy."
Dr. Kennedy was selected as one of only nine faculty members from across the nation to serve on the AACP Academic Affairs Committee, solidifying Western New England University's reputation as a hub for innovative and influential educators in the field of pharmacy.
