Western New England University's Golden Bears Athletics program is gearing up for an exciting weekend as they prepare to host two significant events showcasing the university's athletic talent.
The spotlight shines first on the Women's Basketball team as they secure their place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship game for the first time since the 2018 – 2019 season. The top-seeded Golden Bears will face off against the Nor'easters of the University of New England at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, at the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Following the basketball excitement, the focus shifts to the ice as the Golden Bears Women's Ice Hockey team makes history by hosting their first-ever home playoff game in the semi-finals of the conference tournament. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, where the Golden Bears will take on the University of New England in a thrilling matchup.
Jenn Kolins, Director of Athletics at Western New England University, expressed her pride in the upcoming events, stating, "We are incredibly proud of our Golden Bears women's basketball team for their outstanding performance this season. Hosting the CCC Championship game is a testament to the hard work, talent, and leadership of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff both on and off the court. Additionally, the historic moment of hosting our first-ever home playoff game for Women's Ice Hockey shows the incredible focus, commitment, and work ethic of our players and coaching staff in only the team's 4th year of existence at WNE. Just last week we celebrated their first ever senior day, and now we are hosting a semi-final! What an incredible four years this has been!"
Both championship events promise to be thrilling contests. Fans are encouraged to pack the stands at the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center for the basketball game and continue their Golden Bear support at the Olympia Arena for the historic hockey matchup.
