Western New England University is set to welcome the largest group of new students in its 105-year history this fall. A record-breaking 1,028 new students will join the WNE community next semester, marking the highest admission numbers since the University's founding in 1919. This milestone is a testament to the University's growing appeal and successful recruitment efforts.

Christopher Wystepek, executive director for admissions outreach and recruitment, confirmed that this year also saw the highest number of applications received by the admissions department. The incoming class shows a diverse range of academic interests, with psychology, mechanical engineering, and criminal justice emerging as the top three fields of study.

Wystepek attributes the successful admissions program to its personalized approach. "Basically, it's about making and keeping that connection," he said, emphasizing the importance of engaging with prospective students and supporting them through the enrollment process. He noted that the university takes pride in delivering results that inspire students to enroll and persist in their studies.

WNE President Robert E. Johnson emphasized the University's commitment to delivering a strong value proposition, citing national data that links higher education with increased earning potential. He highlighted that 98% of WNE's 2021-2022 graduates were employed or furthering their education by fall 2022. Additionally, he noted that WNE ranks in the top 6% of colleges and universities for return on investment. U.S. News and World Report also ranks WNE 10th in the nation among selective institutions for its success in elevating students from disadvantaged backgrounds to affluent ones, with graduates earning starting salaries that surpass those of many competing schools.

The record-breaking incoming class underscores the enrollment management department's dedication to supporting incoming students. This team works tirelessly to ensure that each student feels welcomed, connected, and equipped for success from the moment they express interest in WNE. Their commitment is evident in their efforts to engage personally with students, provide comprehensive guidance throughout the admissions process, and foster a supportive environment that encourages academic and personal growth.
