The WNE School of Law has experienced remarkable improvement in first-time bar exam pass rates, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence and student success. Recent results from the July 2024 national bar exam show a sharp rise in bar exam performance in both Massachusetts and Connecticut, far surpassing last year’s figures and highlighting the efficacy of the School of Law’s innovative programming, exceptional faculty, and dedicated leadership.
By the Numbers
In Massachusetts, the July 2024 first-time bar pass rate for WNE graduates climbed to 79.4%, up from 67.6% in July 2023—an 11.8% increase. Similarly, in Connecticut, WNE first-time bar pass rates saw an even more dramatic improvement, rising from 53% in July 2023 to 67% in July 2024—a 14% increase. “This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Class of 2024 and their resolve to pass the bar exam on the first try,” said School of Law Dean Zelda Harris. “It is also a direct result of the expertise, care, and professionalism of our Academic Success and Bar Preparation faculty and staff which is superbly led by Associate Dean, Justin Dion L’00.”
Leadership Driving Success
Dean Harris, a driving force behind the School of Law, credits the success to a collective focus on student outcomes. “Bar success is directly linked to leadership, collaboration, and a focus on student needs,” said Dean Harris. “We take pride in our holistic approach to academic success, which is built on a foundation of outstanding faculty, student-centered programming, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
Dean Harris’s hands-on approach ensures that the law school remains informed and responsive to students’ academic and bar exam preparation needs. Her leadership fosters a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and support that has a tangible impact on outcomes.
Faculty Commitment
The School of Law’s exceptional faculty play a pivotal role in preparing students for the bar exam. By aligning classroom curricula with bar exam content and skills, faculty provide students with a robust and integrated educational experience.
“Our faculty are deeply committed to student success,” added Dean Harris. “They ensure that their courses not only meet learning objectives but also reinforce the critical knowledge and skills necessary for bar exam readiness.”
Holistic Programming
The School of Law’s comprehensive programming begins from the moment students step into their first semester and continues through graduation:
Academic Success Course: First-year students take a required course focused on building foundational skills for law school and bar exam success, including mentorship from upper-class students.Bar-Focused Classes: Upper-level courses include specialized instruction in bar exam writing and multiple-choice strategies, preparing students for the exam’s specific demands.
Intensive Final-Year Preparation: In their final year, students complete two semesters of rigorous bar exam preparation courses designed to ensure they are fully equipped to excel.
This structured and progressive approach ensures that students build the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to pass the bar and launch their legal careers.
A Bright Future
As WNE School of Law celebrates its recent successes, it remains committed to further improving bar exam outcomes and supporting students in achieving their goals. “Our improved bar pass rates are a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our faculty, and the strategies we’ve implemented,” said Dean Harris. “We are proud of these results and excited to build on this momentum.”
