Part-time Process

Find the Program That Fits Your Needs

Degree-Seeking Students

Students interested in part-time study must submit an application for admission and provide all required documentation based on their intended program of study. In order to register for a course(s) as a degree-seeking student, you must be accepted to the University.

Any applicant who provides the appropriate academic documentation can be considered for permission to register for a course(s) while his/her application is pending. Upon receiving permission to register, you can take a course(s) as a non-degree student. You will be considered "non-degree status" until your application is complete and an official acceptance is issued. Financial aid is not available to non-degree students.

Non-Degree Study

Non-degree study allows students to explore course offerings and to acquire job-related knowledge without pursuing a degree. Students can enroll in any undergraduate course for which they have satisfied prerequisite requirements. Non-degree students will be required to submit official transcripts as proof of appropriate preparation. The maximum number of credits that can be earned as a non-degree student is limited to 36 credits. Continuing registration normally requires a cumulative grade point average of "C" (2.0) in courses taken at the University. Apply for non-degree study..

When to Apply for Admission

Western New England University has a "rolling" admissions policy, not a set admission deadline, which gives students greater flexibility in applying. Admission decisions are typically released within two weeks of your application being complete. The University urges prospective students to apply as early as possible in relation to the anticipated start date. Once approved, you can begin your studies at the start of any semester or session.

How to Apply–Non-Degree Programs

Students applying for non-degree study must comply with the following admissions criteria:

  • Submit an application for admission. Apply now.
  • Return the completed form with a nonrefundable $30 application fee. This fee can be waived if a Western New England University alumnus/a signs the application.
  • Freshman students must submit their official final high school transcript(s) or an official copy of the GED score report. Transfer students must include all official college transcripts, as well as transcripts from any secondary school(s) previously attended.

Receiving Transfer Credit

The amount of transfer credit allowed is based upon work completed at previous institutions. Normally, credit is allowed for each course, which is equivalent to a corresponding course at Western New England University, provided the earned grade is "C-" or above. Customarily, a student who has received an associate's degree in an approved program from an accredited college, and who is accepted for admission, will be granted junior status.

Credit for Nontraditional Educational Experience

The University will review, for possible credit, educational programs sponsored by non-collegiate organizations such as business, industry, government, professional, and voluntary associations. Decisions to award transfer credit are based primarily upon The National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs, published by the American Council on Education, and The Directory of the National Program on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction, published by the Board of Regents of the State of New York. In addition, courses and training obtained through the Armed Services will be reviewed on the basis of the recommendations made by the American Council on Education in the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services.
