Labs & Facilities

The Department of Psychology has research labs on campus in the state-of-the-art Center for the Sciences and Pharmacy (CSP), while some projects are conducted with partners offsite. 

The outstanding facilities of the CSP include labs in Applied Behavior Analysis, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Health Psychology, and Clinical/Counseling Psychology. Subject observations are conducted in several large and small interview rooms with one-way glass and built in video and audio recording. Students enjoy the use of multimedia classrooms, a dedicated Psychology Library, and a student lounge with computers.

The Neuroscience laboratory suite includes a lab/classroom that has direct access to the research lab facilities. Within the Neuroscience research lab, there are rooms dedicated to surgery, histology, behavior observation, and electrophysiology. In addition, the research lab has direct access to the vivarium, specifically designed to house rodents and arthropods.

Research experience is not just a value in the Neuroscience program—it is built into the curriculum and required by all Neuroscience majors. Students conduct research rotations through various faculty labs, and can opt to continue on the research track leading to a capstone senior research project. The suite's central space is designed for flexibility to accommodate the sharing of research. This environment mirrors what students will experience in graduate school and helps prepare them for advanced study.

As an undergraduate Neuroscience major, students study the nervous system, behavior, and cognitive processes from a variety of perspectives. The Neuroscience major has been patterned to follow the recommendations of the advisory committee of The Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience. 

Neuroscience students on the research track may have opportunities to attend and present research at the annual international meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, an organization that has more than 30,000 members.
