Federal Work Study

The Federal Work Study Program provides funds for jobs to undergraduate students with financial need. The program encourages community service work and work related to each student’s course of study. The Federal Work Study Program is need-based and requires a completed financial aid application on file with the University. Contact your Financial Aid Counselor to determine if you are eligible for Federal Work Study funds.

Wages for Federal Work Study positions are subsidized by the federal government. Most Federal Work Study positions are on campus; however, there are some off-campus opportunities with America Reads.

Institutional

For students not receiving a Federal Work Study award, some University offices have institutional jobs available. Wages for institutional jobs are fully paid for by the University. These are on-campus positions only.

Private Vendors

On-campus private vendors such as ARAMARK and the Bookstore hire independently and are not paid through the University or affiliated with the Work Study Program.

Pre-Employment Documentation

Prior to starting work in your first position through Student Employment, you must visit the Human Resources office located in Rivers Memorial Hall to complete the following forms:

• Federal I-9 Form

Please bring the following documents with you:

• Passport
  OR
• Driver's license (state or school ID with picture is also acceptable) AND
• Social Security card or Birth Certificate

ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINAL AND UNEXPIRED. PHOTOCOPIES AND ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Additional Documents Used for I-9 Purposes

Prior to starting work in your first position through Student Employment, you must visit the Payroll Department office located in Deliso Hall to complete the following forms for all payroll needs.

Payroll Documentation is required of all employees at WNE

• W-4 Tax Forms
• Direct Deposit documents  

1. You will have to interview for the position, and you never have a second chance to make a first impression. Here is a resource to help you prepare.
2. Follow up with departments where you are interested in working.
3. Don't wait! On-campus positions fill up quickly.
4. You must complete your employment documentation (I-9, W-4, etc.) before you start working.
5. You may have multiple on-campus positions; however, you can only work 20 hours per week, and if you are eligible for Federal Work Study, once you have earned all the funds, you may not be eligible to continue to work.
