Everything You Need To Withdraw
Before you withdraw! Taking time away from school is a significant decision and it’s important to talk to people who support you. We understand that not all situations and circumstances are alike and aim to provide you with individualized attention to address your needs. We are here to help you make an informed decision. If you are withdrawing during the semester, it’s important for you to know what happens to your bill, financial aid, health insurance, and grades. Review the information below, and make appointments as needed with the listed areas to discuss your decision to withdraw or transfer. We want you to have all the information and options in front of you before you finalize your decision. If you are ready to withdraw from the university or take a leave of absence, complete the WNE University Withdrawal/Leave Form.
Withdrawal Checklist
Academic Advising: Reach out to your advisor directly, your academic dean’s office, or if you need help connecting with an advisor call 413-796-2080 or email records@wne.edu.
Financial Implications:
- Check the catalog for the Withdrawal and Refund Policy. If you withdraw on or after the first day of classes of a semester you will be liable for tuition, fee, room, and meal plan charges.
- Talk to Student Accounts in Enrollment Services to see if you will have an outstanding balance as a result of leaving. Outstanding or overdue balances will prevent the release of records such as transcripts and may impact your ability to re-enroll. Call 413-796-2080 or email billing@wne.edu.
- Did you get Financial Aid? Withdrawing may result in a reduction in your financial aid award. It may also affect your future WNE financial aid eligibility if you do not maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. Students with financial aid who are considering withdrawing are urged to contact Enrollment Services to discuss possible financial implications. Call 413-796-2080 or email finaid@wne.edu.
- Receiving Veteran’s education benefits? Call 413-796-2080 or email records@wne.edu before you withdraw to speak with the VA School Certifying Official to understand the potential impact on your benefits.
Check in with Student Outreach and Support. The Office of Student Outreach and Support can meet with you to explore options, provide guidance, and help you navigate the process to ensure your questions are answered. Taking time away from school does not mean the end of your academic journey. Reach out to our office to start this important conversation. Call 413-796-2629 or email sos@wne.edu.
Health and Counseling Services: If you are planning a personal leave or official withdrawal, have you considered whether a Medical Leave is right for you? If you need extra support reach out to our team of health professionals at the Center for Health and Well-Being, located in Room 235 of the Center for Sciences and Pharmacy, by calling 413-782-1211 during office hours, 413-519-4055 after hours, or by emailing healthservices@wne.edu. The WNE Urgent Counseling Line is staffed 24/7 by WNE mental health counselors and can be reached at 413-310-5389.
Do you have health insurance through the university? Insured students who withdraw from school after the start of the semester may be able to remain enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan for the full period for which the premium was paid. Contact the WNE Student Health Insurance Program Coordinator in the Center for Health and Well-Being at 413-782-1211 or email healthservices@wne.edu.
Do you live in the Residence Halls? Contact the Office of Residence Life and Housing to discuss the impact of withdrawal on your housing and meal plan. Students who withdraw from all classes must vacate campus housing. Call 413-782-1317 or email residencelife@wne.edu.
Are you an International Student? Prior to requesting a withdrawal you must notify the Office of International Programs and Education to discuss your intent. Failure to do so may result in termination of student status. Call 413-782-1594 or email brian.mcguinness@wne.edu.
