Black Lives Matter

Supporting Initiatives Of Equity And Equality

The Center for Social Justice stands in solidarity with Black communities and those rising up to demand justice for victims of anti-black police violence and the dismantling of our country’s system of white supremacy that is, tragically, still pervasive today.

We join you in mourning the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, David McAtee, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, and all the others who have lost their lives at the hands of the police and as a result of racially motivated violence. We commit to following and supporting the leadership of Black activists and other marginalized voices fighting to eliminate state-sanctioned violence and systemic racism that exists in every corner of society.

Our racial justice work involves confronting the intergenerational effects of 400 years of racism in the many inequalities COVID-19 has laid bare, including within the legal, criminal injustice, poverty, immigration, education, economic, and health care systems, as well as the pandemic’s disproportionate impact on communities of color in terms of illness, death, and economic devastation.

The Center remains unwavering in our commitment to strengthen collaborative efforts between the School of Law and the region to work toward a more just, equitable, and inclusive society. As lawyers and as members of a legal community, we have a unique capacity to harness the power of our profession to build a different and better future. Indeed, we must.
