The Western New England University School of Law students once again demonstrated skill and tenacity at the American Bar Association (ABA) 2016 National Negotiation Competition held in San Diego, CA.
The ABA National Negotiation Competition provides an opportunity for law students to practice and improve their negotiating skills. The competition simulates legal negotiations in which law students, acting as lawyers, negotiate a series of legal problems.
Following the completion of day one, Regional Competition awards were distributed and the semifinalist teams were announced. Western New England University law students Emily A. Dubuc and Christopher M. Rousseau received an award for their status as Regional Finalists in the Fall Region 1 Competition. They finished in 8th place securing their spot as national semifinalists, and continued on to compete among 16 national teams.
On day two of the competition, Dubuc and Rousseau negotiated against a team from Texas Tech, who had placed 4th after the first day of Nationals. “We finished strong and were able to come to a successful agreement by the end of the round,” says Dubuc. “Although we did not place in the top 4 to move forward, we were very happy with our achievements.”
