Western New England University College of Pharmacy Professor Courtney Doyle-Campbell, is a recipient of this year’s “40 Under Forty” award from BusinessWest Magazine. BusinessWest presents the award to forty "rising stars" in local business and nonprofit communities who have demonstrated extraordinary business and civic leadership in Western MA.

Prior to coming to Western New England University, Courtney worked with Walgreens pharmacy, where, in addition to the roles of a staff pharmacist, she administered vaccinations, offered medication therapy management and provided blood pressure screens.

Currently, Courtney is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ambulatory Care, specializing in hypertension management. Courtney Doyle-Campbell forged a partnership with RiverBend Medical Group to develop a program for patients with treatment-resistant hypertension where she runs the hypertension clinic.

That is one way she has taken to heart the college’s philosophy of ‘the pharmacist as educator,’ and she’s excited to be in the field at a time when the pharmacist’s role is expanding and becoming a more critical bridge between the patient and primary care according to Joseph Bednar in the 40 under 40, The Class of 2016 interview. “There’s a disconnect between what we do and what people perceive that pharmacists do. We’re trying to bridge that gap and get more recognition,” she explains. “It’s different than when pharmacists graduated 20 years ago. Then, the emphasis was all on the drugs. Now, the emphasis is really on the patient. It’s amazing how far pharmacy has come in such a short time.”

Courtney Doyle-Campbell graduated from Smith College with a BA in neuroscience and biochemistry. She obtained her BS and PharmD from the University of Connecticut. She has worked as a research assistant in infectious disease pharmacology at UConn Health Center in Farmington and dermatology/pathology research at Yale School of Medicine.

The 40 Under Forty Gala honoring Professor Doyle-Campbell and the other 39 shinning stars will take place Thursday, June 16, 2016 at The Log Cabin in Holyoke.

The University also congratulates University alumni who were selected for the 40 under Forty Class of 2016: Beth Angelos ’08, Rebecca Connolly G’08, John Gannon L’09, Christina Grass G’11, Jenny MacKay ’10, William Reichelt L’13/G’14, Kenneth Riley, PhD student.
