Richard M. Cassata ’80 of Park Ridge, NJ, has been named to the Western New England University Board of Trustees. President Anthony S. Caprio announced the appointment, which the Board approved during its June meeting.
Richard Cassata is an alumnus of the University, holding the B.S.B.A. in Finance. He is Managing Director of Public Finance of Assured Guaranty Corporation. Assured Guaranty is a leading provider of financial guaranty insurance. The firm guarantees scheduled principal and interest payments on municipal, public infrastructure, and structured financings.
Prior to joining Assured Guaranty, Cassata spent six years working at Financial Guaranty Insurance Company managing the Secondary Markets and Competitive underwriting desk. Before joining Financial Guaranty Insurance, he had spent 13 years in investment banking as a trader and institutional salesman. He is a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York.
Cassata played on the Golden Bear Baseball team which was the first to win 20 games in a season. One of Cassata’s proudest moments was starting a game during his junior year that the Golden Bears won to keep a 10-game winning streak alive.
In addition to supporting Golden Bear Athletics, especially the Men’s Baseball Team, Cassata and his wife established the Richard M. and Catherine Cassata Scholarship for students in the College of Business.
