The Western New England University School of Law will hold a special presentation entitled “The Case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl: A Study in the Military Justice System” presented by Captain Brianna Tellado, U.S. Army Judge Advocate and former Army prosecutor. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 14, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Blake Law Center, Room 3.
Robert Bowdrie "Bowe" Bergdahl is a United States Army soldier who was held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan from June 2009, until his release in May 2014, as part of a prisoner exchange for five Taliban members who were being held at the detention center at Guantanamo Bay. The circumstances under which Bergdahl went missing and how the Taliban captured him have since become subjects of intense media scrutiny.
The talk is an exploration of official Army legal documents from the Bergdahl case, and recorded interviews with Sgt. Bergdahl. Captain Tellado will answer many questions such as, is a court-martial a real trial? Why are there ten (or more) attorneys involved in this case? What does Donald Trump have to do with this trial? Why is this case taking so long? What happens to Sgt. Bergdahl if he is found guilty?
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
