Western New England University will host its 55th annual Tax Institute on Wednesday, November 16, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in the Lyman and Leslie Wood Auditorium, Sleith Hall. The program will include sessions on sales and usage tax audits, elder law and estates, state and federal tax updates, succession planning for CPA firms and other businesses, and more. Political consultant Anthony L. Cignoli will deliver a special luncheon presentation titled “Tax Consequences of the 2016 Elections.”
The Western New England University Tax Institute provides written materials and oral presentations from expert speakers on detailed tax structuring and planning techniques and their practical applications. The program is designed for CPAs, enrolled tax agents, and tax preparers. Attendance at the program qualifies for eight CPE credits based on the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy Rules and Regulations.
“Tax professionals need to learn tax law every year because the law is continually changing. This is due to Congress modifying the law, frequent court decisions, and the IRS making adjustments,” explained Ausher Kofsky, assistant professor of accounting, Western New England University. “The problem is that Congress rarely eliminates a provision of the laws; they just keep adding layers, making the tax laws more complicated.” Kofsky added.
