Western New England University College of Pharmacy has received a fourth educational grant award of $13,500 from BTG International, Inc. to host an annual pharmacy continuing education conference for practicing pharmacists in June 2017. The previous three conferences educated pharmacists on the latest studies and best practices concerning medication safety, drug overdose, and patient management.
More than 100 pharmacists from over 40 institutions in MA, CT, RI, and VT have attended the Enhancing Medication Safety conference each year. BTG has supported the College of Pharmacy with a total of $56,000 since 2014, and is committed to supporting education in medical science that promotes excellence in patient care.
The focus of the 2017 program will include lectures on the best practices related to oncology, psychiatry, and geriatrics pharmaceutical care, and the safe practices of medication use in the hospital setting. It will also provide an update on drug overdose and drugs of abuse including opioids.
