The Art Gallery at Western New England University will host "FoundFiber" an exhibit by fiber/quilt artist Linda Rogers, from March 5 to April 13. The gallery, located in the St. Germain Campus Center, will host an opening reception Sunday, March 5, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. There will also be a gallery talk on Thursday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m., when the artist will offer insight into her unique work. Linda Rogers has held a host of creative positions, from interior designer and toy store owner, to costume designer, window dresser, and event planner. She is an award-winning quilter, and often donates her work to charity. She also has a love for crafts of all kinds and is an active member of ArtAbandonment.com.
"I have always loved the contrasts of shapes and colors, and have found that fabric is a wonderful medium for my designs," says Rogers. "I will purchase new fabric on occasion, when it jumps out and grabs me, but I prefer constructing my palette with cast-offs. The hunt for unloved, second-hand clothing and textiles is almost as exciting for me as making something beautiful and new with them. Breaking the traditional rules of the quilting world is liberating, by using a color that 'just won’t work', or not squaring up my edges. I enjoy puzzling out a solution and seeing where the creative journey takes me."
Linda Rogers is an award winning and prolific charity-quilter from western Massachusetts whose work has been exhibited throughout New England, and beyond. In addition, Rogers is a staff member in the Office of Alumni Relations at Western New England University.
