Western New England University law student Marketia Wright is the 2017 recipient of the Annual Book Awards Program offered by The Massachusetts Black Judges Conference, an organization comprised of the African-American judges in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Annual Book Awards Program provides financial assistance to an outstanding African American student pursuing legal studies in Massachusetts. The criteria in selecting recipients of this important award are leadership qualities, scholarship, trial advocacy skills, and financial need.
“Marketia is a very active member of the law school community,” said School of Law Dean Eric Gouvin. “She embodies the kind of community-focused, positive, constructive attitude that makes us proud to educate the next generation of lawyers.”
Ms. Wright received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama, and is currently a second year law student at Western New England University School of Law.
Wright serves in the Elder Law Clinic at Western New England, providing free legal services to elders in the community including, drafting wills, healthcare proxies, and power of attorney. She is also a volunteer tax preparer with VITA, the national Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Wright is a student member of Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, American Bar Association, National Association of Women Lawyers and Black Law Students Association.
