Western New England University School of Law Professor Sudha Setty has received the 2017 Tapping Reeve Legal Educator Award from the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA). The award is presented to legal educators who have made significant contributions to the cause of legal education over a period of years and have distinguished themselves as a legal educator of the highest quality.
Sudha Setty is the Associate Dean for Faculty Development & Intellectual Life and a professor of Law. As a professor, she teaches law and terrorism, comparative constitutional law, civil rights, constitutional law, and business organization and contracts. Her scholarly work focuses on comparative analysis of the separation of powers, rule of law, and national security issues.
Prior to joining the faculty of Western New England in 2006, Professor Setty was a litigator with the New York firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell, where she focused on antitrust and securities regulation matters. Her extensive pro bono practice included litigating federal civil rights cases and the mentoring of New York City high school students.
“Sudha Setty has been recognized several times by her peers for her work as a legal educator. Her focus on national security issues is particularly relevant at this point in our country’s history,” said Monte Frank, president of the CBA. “As a lawyer and law educator Setty has a particular interest in maintaining the rule of law as a means of protecting the liberty of all Americans. Sudha’s work in this field embodies the values of all lawyers and should be recognized.”
Professor Setty graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar from Columbia Law School and received her A.B. in History (concentration in comparative civil rights) with honors from Stanford University.
