Western New England University College of Business has announced a new master’s program in Sport Leadership and Coaching for students seeking to enter education based athletic administration, athletic coaching, or managerial positions within any sport organization. The program is designed for early and mid-career sport industry professionals who are seeking to advance their skills in the areas of leadership, decision-making, team building, fundraising, marketing, and legal and compliance aspects. This program will help candidates develop the skills needed to build and manage a team, assess and recruit talent, and create a high performing business enterprise that supports organizational and individual success.

“Given the fast-paced nature and dynamic environment of sport organizations, it is critical that administrators and coaches are prepared to meet the emerging challenges they face from the front office and on the playing field,” explained Dr. Sharianne Walker, chair and professor of Sport Management. “This program provides students with the tools and strategies to build and manage high performing sport programs. Today’s coaches and administrators are increasingly being called upon to be tech-savvy, innovative, and entrepreneurial. This hands-on curriculum is specifically designed to meet those needs.”

The 30-credit program offers optional in-class sessions and two required weeklong residencies. With four 11-week terms, the program can be completed in as few as 15 months. The curriculum focuses on expanding leadership capabilities in a practical way, including two concentrations in athletic administration and athletic coaching.

The program is offered through the Western New England University College of Business, which is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.
