A graduation ceremony was recently held to honor the six Chinese pharmacists who are the first students to successfully complete a new International Clinical Pharmacy Training Program. The program was established by Western New England University College of Pharmacy in collaboration with Chinese Pharmacological Society-Division of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Research, and Yale New Haven Hospital Department of Pharmacy.

The program mission is to provide Chinese clinical pharmacists with advanced training through U.S. based educational and clinical resources. It allows international pharmacists to spend one month at the Western New England University College of Pharmacy to learn about Doctor of Pharmacy education, and five months at Yale New Haven Hospital to learn about the practice of pharmacy in the United States. The program represents a new and unique opportunity for international collaboration at Western New England University and Yale New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Shusen Sun, director of the International Pharmacy Programs at Western New England University, and Dr. Janet Kozakiewicz, director of pharmacy at YNHH, congratulated the Chinese pharmacists for their success at the ceremony. Dr. Kozakiewicz commented, “This program and your success are deeply rooted in collaboration, and collaboration propels us to continue learning from each other, and ultimately makes a positive difference in people’s lives. This program serves as a valuable bridge between our cultures and our exchange of knowledge.”

“With the successful implementation of this collaborative program, we are anticipating the continuation and possible expansion of the program,” remarked Dr. Sun.
