Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Associate Dean, Beth Welch, was accepted into the inaugural Interprofessional Deans Leadership Program (IDLP) of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC). The IPEC recently launched a new initiative to foster interprofessional collaboration by developing senior leaders at institutions across the country. Dean Welch will be among national 40 leaders from 15 different medical professions to initiate the new program.
In 2009, six national education associations of schools of the health professions formed a collaborative to promote and encourage constituent efforts. The goal is to advance substantive interprofessional learning experiences to help prepare future health professionals for enhanced team-based care of patients, and to improve population health outcomes. These organizations that represent higher education in dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, allopathic and osteopathic medicine, and public health, created core competencies for interprofessional collaborative practice to guide curricula development across health professions schools.
