The Western New England University Campus Activities Board (CAB) held the annual Family and Friends Weekend on October 28-29, inviting students’ loved ones to enjoy a fun-filled weekend on campus. The weekend had a super hero theme, giving visitors a chance to soar around campus while sporting blue University super hero capes.
The weekend kicked off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Campus Center when guests had the option to peruse the Study Abroad Information Fair, or watch a performance by the University’s own Improv on the Rocks troupe.
Commonwealth Lawn was used for games and crafts Saturday afternoon. Mummy mason jars and fall picture frames were available as well as lawn games and a bouncy house obstacle course. Music provided by WNEK The Voice, the University’s student-run radio station, gave students and their guests a reason to dance and sing together. Later that afternoon, a showing of Spiderman: Homecoming was offered in the Campus Center.
For sports enthusiasts, there were several athletic games on campus including volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and the football game, where both University cheerleaders and the Dance Team performed during half time. All Golden Bear teams won their games on Saturday.
After the “official” sports teams won their games, the Residence Hall Association held the 34th Annual Bed Race, during which each residence hall creates a race-cart constructed with the same basic tools and set of rules. This year, Commonwealth Hall took home the trophy and the competitors were congratulated by President Anthony S. Caprio.
The evening began to wind down with the Parents Association President’s Reception, where parents and students gathered to enjoy light snacks and beverages together. Saturday drew to a close in Rivers Arena, when entertainer Ben Seidman performed for a large audience. The comedic magician left audience members laughing and in awe at his extraordinary tricks.

To end Friends and Family Weekend on Sunday, students and their guests had an opportunity to make a Western New England University pillow together in the Campus Center before saying their goodbyes.
It was another wonderfully successful Friends and Family Weekend thanks to University Campus Activities Board and the support of the family and friends of University students.
