The Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will hold its eighth annual Continuing Education and Preceptor Development Conference for registered pharmacists Thursday, March 22. The program runs from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Rivers Memorial Hall on the University’s Springfield campus, addressing a range of topics from the opioid crisis to legal issues affecting the profession.

"This event is one important way the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences supports the educational needs of pharmacists in the region," according to Dr. Kim Tanzer, assistant dean for experiential affairs. "It demonstrates our commitment to a key component of our mission – to enhance the knowledge base of area professionals through teaching, service, research, and scholarly activity."

Hundreds of pharmacists from throughout New England have participated in the full-day training over the past seven years, learning about regulatory issues and clinical therapeutics. This year’s program includes the following presentations:

  • Pharmacy Law: Regulations and Cases to Review Anew
  • The Opioid Crisis: An Overview of Substance Use Disorder, Treatment, and Impact on the Pharmacy Profession
  • ADHD: Blurring the Spectrum
  • Past, Present, and Future of Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Opioids for Treatment of Non-Cancer Pain

Upon completion of the program, participants will receive six contact hours of ACPE accredited continuing pharmacy education. There is no charge for the conference; however, advance registration is required before March 19. To register, visit www.wnerxce.org.
