The Art Gallery at Western New England University will kick off the 2019-20 academic year with a special exhibition highlighting the institution's rich 100-year history. "WNE's Centennial Exhibition: Selected Artworks from The Permanent Collection," will run from August 24 to October 6.
"This Centennial Exhibition and all the works in our permanent collection are gifts to the University from the many artists of our community who have exhibited in the University Art Gallery. These creative individuals have become a vital part of our campus community," said University President Anthony S. Caprio.
The nearly three dozen individual works of art include paintings, prints, drawings, as well as three-dimensional artwork. All were carefully selected by Gallery Curator Patricia Jenks to reflect the strength and diversity of the University's collection. "My goal has been to exhibit some traditional/realist work along with contemporary/abstract work so there would be a good mix of types of artwork, creative styles, genres, sizes, as well as some student pieces," said Jenks. The result is an exhibition showcasing artists from across the country as well as the rich artistic tradition at Western New England University.
The gallery, located in the St. Germain Campus Center, will host a gallery talk on Thursday, September 12 at 4:00 p.m. followed by a reception with featured artists from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. All gallery events are free and open to the public.
