University to Host Stuff-a-Cruiser Toy Drive

Western New England University to host “Stuff-a-Cruiser” Toy Drive event on Wednesday, December 4, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. outside of the University Commons on the University Campus. Donations from the public are welcomed.

Bring a new unwrapped toy to University Commons where officers will park a cruiser to collect your donations for the benefit of the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield.

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, conducting innovative research, and offering outstanding educational programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.

 “This year our Love to the Rescue goal is to fill the Western New England University’s entire fleet of 5 cruisers,” says University Police Officer Richard Spaulding, the event organizer. “We do this event in order to demonstrate our dedication to improving community-police relationships and partnerships.”

According to their website, Shriners Hospitals for Children’s biggest wish list area is for Teens (12+ toys) and Infants (0-2 year toys). Visit the for ideas and suggestions. “Monetary donations are also welcomed,” explains Officer Spaulding. “Directly after the event, members of Public Safety and Student Senate will purchase toys that fill the need gaps as outlined by Shriners.”
