Life Story of WNE Alumnus Nick Newell Featured on the Big Screen

As an accomplished alumnus of the Western New England wrestling program and now a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, the impact of "Notorious Nick" Newell's athletic journey has extended beyond the ring to the big screen.

Newell's life story is now featured in the newly released Lionsgate film "Notorious Nick," sharing his hard-fought journey and achievements as a one-handed fighter born with a congenital amputation of his left arm.

Newell '08, a native of Milford, Connecticut, was a member and captain of the WNE wrestling program from 2004 to 2008. After concluding his Golden Bear college career in the College of Arts and Sciences, Newell joined the professional MMA ranks in 2009 with an 11-0 record fighting in promotions including the Xtreme Fighting Champions, the Legacy Fighting Alliance, and the World Series of Fighting.

Initially retiring in 2015, Newell returned to the MMA cage in 2018 and is now a featured fighter for BELLATOR MMA. Currently holding a 16-4 record, Newell fights at the Fighting Arts Academy in Milford, Connecticut.
