The Wellen Davison Seminar Series will host a discussion by Dr. Neenah Estrella-Luna titled “Looking in the Mirror: Our Role in Dismantling White Supremacy” on Friday, May 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST. This seminar will focus on concepts of anti-racism, diversity, inclusion, sensitivity, and unconscious bias in today’s modern workplace/university. Dr. Neenah Estrella-Luna is a researcher, educator, advocate, and consultant focusing on issues related to social justice, social relations, and democratic governance. Dr. Estrella-Luna provides opportunities to organizations and communities to learn how they can contribute to dismantling white supremacy and other structures of bigotry in their spheres of influence. She works with grassroots organizations and policymakers to develop and advocate for policies and practices that support social equity in law and policy. She is also an active member of the Massachusetts Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. After 15 years in academia, Dr. Estrella-Luna is now the principal of StarLuna Consulting, an anti-racism and social equity research, education, and consulting firm.

The Wellen Davison seminar series is named after former Mechanical Engineering Professor, Wellen Davison, who taught at the University’s College of Engineering for 38 years. In celebration of his dedication, the University inaugurated the Wellen Davison Seminar in 1989. This seminar is now an annual professional development event designed to improve the teaching and learning environment for faculty, administration, and staff at the University.
