Western New England University Students Excel at Mass FinTech Hub Bootcamp

WNE students and faculty at the Mass FinTech Hub Bootcamp.

On February 24, 70 students from institutions across Massachusetts and Rhode Island gathered at Stonehill College for the Mass FinTech Hub Bootcamp, a pioneering event aimed at delving into the evolving landscape of financial technology. Among them, seven bright minds from Western New England University's College of Business stood out for their engagement and enthusiasm.

The participating students from WNE, representing various disciplines within the College of Business, included Elizabeth Heiney (Management & Leadership), Logan Palmer (Sport Management), Everest Schneider (Finance), Andersen Burrows (Finance), Aditya Shah (Business Analytics & Information Management & Finance), Kavya Parikh (Business Analytics & Information Management), and Matt Debler-Seidel (General Business). Accompanying them were two esteemed professors, Professor Charles Mutigwe from the Business Analytics & Information Management faculty and Professor Ethan Jiang from the Finance faculty.

The bootcamp kicked off with an opening address by Fr. John Denning, President of Stonehill College, setting the tone for the day's discussions. Attendees were treated to enlightening panel discussions featuring industry experts, exploring topics ranging from banking innovation to the future of financial services and fintech. Notable speakers included Dahiana Duarte Pena, vice president at Eastern Labs; Akshay Kumar Sharma, managing director at State Street; and Nicholas Sweeney, vice president of Strategic Partnerships at BankProv, among others.

The highlight of the event was the engaging pitch competition during the working lunch session, providing students with a platform to showcase their forward-thinking strategies. Closing remarks and networking opportunities allowed participants to connect with peers and gain valuable insights into the fintech landscape.

"Events like these not only broaden our students understanding of the industry but also foster valuable connections with industry leaders and other entrepreneurially minded students from across the commonwealth."
