Western New England University recently hosted the New England District Western NE Event of the 2025 FIRST® Robotics Competition from March 14 to 16. This event brought together 35 high school teams from across the region, showcasing their engineering prowess and teamwork.
The FIRST® Robotics Competition challenges students to design, build, and program industrial-size robots to compete in field games under strict rules and limited resources. Participants also engage in fundraising, branding, and teamwork activities, providing a comprehensive STEM learning experience.
WNE's Alumni Healthful Living Center served as the venue for this dynamic event, reflecting the university's commitment to fostering STEM education and community engagement.
The competition featured teams from various high schools, including local participants like Team 1027 "Mechatronic Maniacs" from West Springfield, Team 7127 "LongMetal Robotics" from Longmeadow, and Team 9710 "Discovery PolyBotz" from Springfield. These teams demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical skills throughout the event.
The event was part of the broader New England District schedule, which includes multiple competitions leading up to the district championship. Springfield's "Discovery PolyBotz" who were part of the winning alliance, will move onto the New England District championships at the Big E in April.
WNE extends its gratitude to the College of Engineering and all participants, mentors, volunteers, and spectators who contributed to the success of this inspiring event.
