The College of Business recently welcomed alumna Jennifer Arling '22 and talent acquisition leader Tricia Arling for a professional development session designed to help students better navigate internships, job searches, and early career decisions.
Jennifer Arling, a Senior Business Planner at Henkel, shared her journey from student intern to full-time professional, offering students a firsthand perspective on how early experiences can shape long-term career success. Reflecting on her time as an intern, she emphasized how hands-on learning, adaptability, and strong teamwork skills helped position her for a full-time role.
Joining her was her mom, Tricia Arling, Manager of Talent Acquisition at ISO New England, who brought more than 25 years of recruiting experience to the conversation. She provided an inside look at the hiring process, helping students better understand what employers are truly looking for in candidates.
The session focused on practical strategies for standing out in a competitive job market. Together, the speakers guided students through building effective resumes, preparing for interviews, and approaching internship opportunities with intention. They emphasized that while technical knowledge is important, communication skills, professionalism, and adaptability are often what distinguish candidates.
By connecting classroom learning with real-world expectations, Jennifer and Tricia offered students a clearer picture of today’s workforce—and how to prepare for it. The session left attendees with actionable advice and greater confidence as they take the next steps in their professional journeys.
