Western New England University recognized 50 student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom and in competition during the annual Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society ceremony held in April in the Downes Athletic Hall of Fame Room. The event celebrated Golden Bears who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, character, and athletic commitment.
Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society for collegiate student-athletes, recognizes juniors and seniors who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher while making significant contributions to their teams and campus community. Inductees must also earn the endorsement of their head coach based on leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship.
Representing 17 varsity sports programs, this year’s class highlights Western New England University’s continued commitment to supporting student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. The 2026 induction class follows several years of strong academic achievement among Golden Bear student-athletes and continues a tradition that dates back to WNE’s first Chi Alpha Sigma class in 2008.
“The Chi Alpha Sigma ceremony is one of the most meaningful celebrations of the year because it recognizes student-athletes who have truly embraced the challenge of excelling in every aspect of the collegiate experience,” said Jennifer O. Kollins. “These students have demonstrated discipline, resilience, leadership, and a commitment to academic success while competing at a high level for their teams. We are proud of everything they have accomplished and the example they set for the entire University community.”
The ceremony was hosted by the Department of Athletics and Recreation and attended by student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and family members. The honorees were celebrated not only for their academic accomplishments, but also for their dedication to teamwork, service, and leadership throughout their time at Western New England University.
