MSPGx to PharmD Pathway

Applying through this pathway means you may be able to complete both a Master of Science in Pharmacogenomics degree and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in five years!

The MS in Pharmacogenomics (MSPGx) pathway to the PharmD program is designed for applicants who wish to advance their careers by earning both an MSPGx and a PharmD degree at an ACPE-accredited institution. While enrollment in the MSPGx program does not guarantee admission to the PharmD program, it offers a streamlined pathway that may reduce the time required to complete both degrees. Upon successful admission to the PharmD program, all eligible coursework completed in the MSPGx program will be transferred toward the PharmD degree. In addition, previously completed coursework from external institutions will be evaluated to determine whether additional transfer credits may be awarded.

1. Significantly reduced PharmD course load (up to 28 MSPGx transfer credits, 22 didactic credits, and 6 experiential credits).
2. Completing the MSPGx satisfies PharmD prerequisite requirements.

Admission Application Requirements for the MSPGx program

Subsequent Application to PharmD Program

• Upon successful completion of the first semester of the MSPGx program with a GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 and no failing grades, any student in the MSPGx program may start the application to the PharmD program through PharmCAS.
• Upon successful completion of the first year of the MSPGx program with a GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 and no failing grades, all pre-pharmacy prerequisites to the PharmD program will be considered complete.

Curriculum Considerations

• Course credit transfers from the MSPGx program, or from any prior completed degrees to the PharmD program will be conducted by the COPHS Office of Academic Affairs.
• Courses must have been completed within the past six (6) years from the date of application for transfer credit (as long as all courses for the degree are completed within 7 years total).
• Successful completion of the M.S. in Pharmacogenomics is required prior to entering the PY1 year of the PharmD program.
• Students will work with the MSPGx program coordinator Dr. Kinney (shannon.kinney@wne.edu) to review their individual course plan.

Tuition and Fees

• While enrolled solely in the MSPGx program, the student will pay the same tuition and fees as any MSPGx degree student.
• Upon enrollment in the PharmD program, students will pay tuition and fees equivalent to a COPHS full-time PharmD student, unless they are not taking the equivalent of a full-time academic load. If not in a full-time academic load of 12 credits per semester, then the student will pay the same per-credit-hour tuition and fees as any part-time PharmD student.
• While in the PharmD program, students will be eligible for the same scholarships as any other student.
