The Art Gallery at Western New England University will host “Unhindered: Working on the Surface,” an exhibit by fiber artist Jamie Lynn Williams, from March 4 to April 12. The gallery, located in the St. Germain Campus Center, will host a gallery talk on Thursday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. where the artist will offer insight into her work, followed by an artist reception from 5:00-6:30 p.m. All gallery events are free and open to the public.
Williams primarily employs hand and machine embroidery techniques in her work. “My work is the product of a process that is detail oriented and emotionally driven,” she says. “Both the traditions of painting and drawing influence my approach to fiber materials. In my work, I explore the ways in which thread, fabric, and beads can be used to create a language of intricate mark making to describe the inner world. Through this unrestricted exploration of fiber materials, I seek to depict emotional freedom.”
Jamie is an emerging fiber artist in Indianapolis, IN. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Art and Psychology from Smith College in Northampton and began her studio practice in Easthampton. After living in the Pioneer Valley for several years, she moved back to her hometown of Indianapolis where she continues to develop her craft.
