Western New England University Student Entrepreneurs Receive Harold Grinspoon Foundation Spirit Awards

Dr. Mary Schoonmaker, Director of Western New England University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, announced the recipients of The Harold Grinspoon Foundation Spirit Awards.

Each spring, faculty from the greater Springfield area universities and colleges nominate students who have demonstrated entrepreneurship through their endeavors at school. These awards are traditionally presented at the Grinspoon Spring banquet, which was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dean Sharianne Walker, of the College of Business noted, "These students have demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial talents that will serve them well in their future. We are deeply appreciative of The Harold Grinspoon Foundation for recognition of our students."

Western New England teams receiving Spirit Awards are:

Athlastics, a blended recyclable and natural fabric.
Created by Electrical Engineering and Business students: Ethan Valdes and Nhat Nguyen;

Kagno Cards, a sports card trading business.
Operated by Business student: Ethan Kagno;

Joe's Fitness, an online fitness platform.
Created by Entrepreneurship students: Ryan Bremer, Grace Buttrick, and Joe Lapinski;

One Step Tile, a passive energy tile.
Created by Mechanical Engineering and Business students: Faith Cordes, Madeline Dugan, and David Thomas Gonzales; and

PAL, a fitting adjustment device to assist wearers with a prosthetic limb.
Created by Biomechanical Engineering and Pharmacy Business students: Courtney Carlson, Kelsey Hastings, and Olivia Truenow.
