Western New England University (WNE) will host this year's "Girls on the Run of Western MA 5K" event on Sunday, June 5. The event is open to the public and all proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run of WMA. The 5K route goes all through the Western New England University campus. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. with group warm-up and festivities starting at 10:30 a.m. The race will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Registration cost is $30 for adults and $10 for youth and includes an event shirt.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in 3rd to 8th grade. During the 10-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections, and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event.

This event is the culmination of the 10-week season in which participants have learned many social emotional skills throughout the lessons. This spring season Girls on the Run has 1007 participants in 70 sites around Western MA, with 250 volunteer coaches that bring the curriculum to life. Over 2500 people are expected at this year's 5K.
