Western New England University is proud to sponsor the inaugural Mentoring Matters 5k and Virtual 5k Race on Saturday, August 20. The race is open to the public. Registration is required. Runners and walkers can register as teams or individuals at the Mentoring Matters 5k website. Saturday's event will include fun raffles, race awards, Tshirts and medals for participants, a rock-climbing wall, and a Food Truck Festival!
The Mentoring Matters 5k run/walk hosted by the Springfield Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization Follow My Steps aims to raise awareness for the need for mentorship in under-resourced communities. Follow My Steps offers youth mentoring, career & skill development, and financial resources to children and families in the greater Springfield, MA region. The Registration fee for the 5k event is $30.00; $20.00 for 18 years old and under.
Western New England University President Robert E. Johnson will welcome the crowd of 200 participants and over 400 participant supporters.
FMS5k is the Follow My Steps non-competitive virtual self-challenge. Participants choose from 1-mile, 5k, 1000 steps, or any amount of running, walking, stepping outside or in the comfort of your own home, while supporting Follow My Steps' mission to empower the youth through mentorship. Information on how to track distance can be found on the website. Registration for #FMS5k is $30.00 per person. All ages and abilities are welcomed.
