Early Arrivals:
Early arrivals must be part of an approved early arrival group (i.e. fall athletic team, Peer or Resident Advisor staff, U&Me Mentoring Program, Music/Theater Camp, etc). If you are part of an early arrival group, your coach/supervisor/advisor will communicate with you regarding your group’s early arrival date and time. Keys for early arrivals will be available at the Campus Center, second floor, on the specified day and time for your group.

What if I need to arrive early but am not part of a group?
Students who are not part of an approved early arrival group must email Residence Life at residencelife@wne.edu. We cannot guarantee that will we be able to approve a given request, so students should not make travel plans until their request has been approved in writing. For any student who is not part of an approved early arrival group but has an early arrival request approved, the cost for early arrival will be $30 per night until the regularly scheduled move-in date.

What Comes In Your Room?

All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk with chair, dresser, closet or wardrobe and microfridge. All mattresses are twin extra long, except in Gateway Village where they are regular twin mattresses. Areas with common space, such as living rooms, also have those spaces furnished as appropriate.

All furnishings provided in the room/suite/apartment/townhouse are expected to remain in that location and should not be removed to accommodate personal property. Storage space is not available during the academic year. Any furniture missing at the time of a student's departure will result in a replacement charge billed to the student's account. Items should not be moved outside (even temporarily) since sunlight, heat and/or moisture can damage University furniture. Items found outside of student housing will be considered "abandoned" and taken by University personnel without any responsibility to notify the room occupants.

Free standing loft-style furniture and bunk beds may be modified to fit personal needs but all parts must be stored in the assigned living space (especially if nuts and bolts are involved). Please note: beds are NOT able to be lofted in Gateway nor in the Quad buildings (Berkshire, Franklin, and Hampden) near the wifi routers. Use care when modifying any furniture so that all pieces are properly assembled for safe use. Please note: the University does not provide any tools for modifying furniture but Facilities staff will be on hand during move-in to assist with bed modifications. If uncertain about the design and set-up of furniture, please seek assistance from University staff before rearranging and using the furniture.

The University provides a combined microwave-refrigerator unit (one per room) in Berkshire, Commonwealth, Franklin, Hampden and Windham Halls. In each of these locations, students are limited to bringing one additional refrigerator which must not exceed 3.5 cubic feet in size. Students are not permitted to bring their own microwaves to campus if they reside in these locations. These restrictions are for safety concerns and appropriate power usage in student housing.

Residents of LaRiviere Living and Learning Center are provided with a full-size refrigerator and a microwave in the common living room of each suite, as well as access to a microwave in the common areas of the wings in LaRiviere. These items are the collective responsibility of the residents of the suite. Residents of Evergreen Village, Gateway Village, and Southwood Hall are also provided with a full-size refrigerator, but are not provided with a microwave.

What Shouldn't You Bring to Campus?

Cooking appliances (such as microwaves, toaster ovens, hot plates, electric grills) are permitted only in Evergreen Village, Gateway Village and Southwood Hall, which have complete kitchens as part of each living unit.

Drugs or any illegal substances, firearms and weapons of any type, explosive agents, and fireworks are strictly prohibited. Other devices that present a clear and present danger to the welfare of others (such as paintball guns, sling shots) are not allowed, unless part of an authorized campus event. Air conditioners, halogen lamps, drums, and other amplified instruments are not permitted in University housing.

Personal furniture (i.e., other than that provided by the University) may be added by the student to housing facilities on a limited basis.  In all housing areas except Gateway Village, the student is permitted to bring single-seat supplemental items which meet the standard of California Technical Bulletin 117 (CAL 117).  In Gateway Village, single-seat personal furniture must meet the standard of California Technical Bulletin 133 (CAL 133).  The University reserves the right to limit the amount and size of supplemental seating students may bring into the room or apartment.  Upholstered multi-seat furniture (i.e., loveseats, couches, futons, etc.) is limited to that which has been provided by the University

More detailed information on the University's expectations for personal and/or University property, as well as use of resident student living space, may be found in the Resident Student Housing Agreement, a publication of the Residence Life Office. Please refer to the Policies link on the Residence Life website for access to this document. This document can also be found in the THD system.

Below you'll find a list of suggested items that you may want to bring to campus, as well as items that you should not bring to campus.

What to Bring to Campus

Personal Property Insurance

An option for low cost property insurance is available through National Student Services, Inc. at https://www.nssi.com/. Their toll free number is 1-800-256-6774. While there are a number of plans on the market and the University does not particularly endorse any one of these, it is highly recommended that students secure some type of personal property insurance, particularly if there is not coverage through a homeowner's policy already. The University does not assume any responsibility or liability for a student's personal belongings or property (replacement or repair thereof) and cannot provide temporary or seasonal storage of personal belongings.

Hotels and Motels in the Area

Arrival on-campus prior to Friday, August 26th for new students and Saturay, August 27th for returning students is not possible unless they have been approved as early arrivals. Opening is spread out over multiple days to give students maximum flexibility when making travel arrangements. If an early arrival is imperative, please have the student complete an early arrival application or make arrangements for off-campus accommodations.
