Welcome to WNE
At Summer Orientation and Registration (SOAR), a true unique WNE tradition, you'll get a preview into life as a first-year Golden Bear from faculty, staff, and our highly trained student Orientation Group Leaders, learn about important resources on campus, and get tips on how to make a smooth transition to life as a WNE college student. Once you're finished you'll be ready to soar into a successful first year as a Golden Bear.
Register for SOAR
SOAR will take place on the following days:
- Transfer SOAR: Monday, June 9
- SOAR A: Thursday, June 12
- SOAR B: Monday, June 16
- SOAR C: Wednesday, June 18
- SOAR D: Friday, June 20
- SOAR E: Tuesday, June 24

You will receive a full schedule for the day when you arrive for SOAR, but here’s a brief overview of what you can expect during your day on campus:
- 8:30 a.m.–Arrive to campus and enjoy a continental breakfast as a number of WNE community members gather to warmly welcome you to the Golden Bear family!
- 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.–Spend the morning seeing all that WNE has to offer, meeting the Orientation Group Leaders who will guide you throughout the day, getting to know your peers, and gathering with your academic community for a preview of what your future major will look like.
- 12:00-1:00 p.m.–Enjoy lunch in our University Commons dining hall with your new peers.
- 1:00-4:30 p.m.–Continue traveling with your orientation group and learn more about residential/commuter life, your class schedule for the fall semester, our one-stop-shop Student Hub, and other helpful resources around campus. Additionally, you’ll get a preview of the fall semester including important dates and what you can expect, enjoy some snacks with families and President Johnson, and explore the first-year residence halls if you would like.
Preparing for Life as a Golden Bear
As you prepare to start classes in the fall we realize you may have questions after you leave campus during SOAR. In addition to the resource booklet provided at SOAR, we are also providing two optional opportunities via Zoom to engage with OGLs and staff from Student Life. Dates will be coming soon!
